Webinar Post-COVID-19 Reconfigurations: Session 4: Multilateral Responses to COVID-19

The magnitude of the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus has tested the foundations of the international cooperation system. The crisis is threefold – health, humanitarian and development – and the response will be no other, but the “shared responsibility and global solidarity”, proposed by the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, in the organization’s strategy to counteract the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19. Mexico, like the rest of the countries, will have to adapt and participate in the reconfigurations of the multilateral sphere to navigate international scenarios with high levels of uncertainty.

In a situation that will exacerbate inequalities between and within countries, it is essential to question the dilemmas that hinder international coordination to face global challenges with effective responses. The global recession and looming budgetary constraints threaten to limit the financing of development cooperation in Mexico: How to ensure that the attention of the pandemic by COVID-19 is not provided at the expense of global development commitments?

UNOSSC participated in webinar Session 4 on Multilateral responses to COVID-19 held on 29 May 2020.
