Postponement Announcement

[UPDATE] Expo 2020 Dubai is gearing up to help shape a post-pandemic world and create a better future for all after a two-thirds majority of Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) Member States voted in favour of postponing the next World Expo by one year. The global mega event will now run from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022, a delay that allows all participants to safely navigate the impact of COVID-19, and allows the World Expo to focus on a collective desire for new thinking to identify solutions to some of the greatest challenges of our time.

What is Expo 2020 Dubai?

Expo Dubai will host the world for 181 days, each one brimming with new experiences. It’ll be a time to create, collaborate and innovate. And it’s going to be fun. We’re talking eye-catching, mind-bending, taste bud-tickling, grin-inducing, good-weird, did-that-really-just-happen fun. Come along, or spend a lifetime telling less interesting stories.

Our once-in-a-lifetime celebration – the largest event ever staged in the Arab world – is set to welcome 190 participating countries, and millions of visitors from across the globe. Here they will experience warm Emirati hospitality at its finest, as well as the UAE’s values of inclusion, tolerance and cooperation. Youth are at the heart of our World Expo. That’s why Expo Dubai aspires to create a meaningful legacy that will benefit generations to come, both locally and globally, spanning everything from innovations and architecture to friendships and business opportunities.

Connecting Minds, Creating the Future

Expo 2020 Dubai’s theme, “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, will provide a platform to foster creativity, innovation, and collaboration globally. It is based on the belief that sharing innovative ideas and building partnerships will inspire the way we shape our future in the most positive way possible.

Expo 2020 Dubai will work towards enabling new Opportunities for individuals and communities to help them achieve their needs and inspire them to pursue their future aspirations – aligning with the global vision of the UN SDGs. Expo 2020 will explore the areas of Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability – which make up the three key sub-themes.

Opportunity

We all have the power to shape the future. Expo 2020 aims to unlock this potential in multiple ways, such as supporting solutions to social problems through our Expo Live programme and introducing visitors to new ideas that inspire them to act.

Mobility

When we enable smarter movement of knowledge, ideas and goods, a new world of possibilities unfolds. Expo 2020 looks at how this has helped us explore new frontiers, and how humanity is making greater leaps than ever through digital connectivity.

Sustainability

The need to live in balance with the world we inhabit has never been more critical. Expo 2020 is embracing alternative sources of food, water, and clean and renewable energy, and encouraging us all to reassess how we can preserve the planet.
