Government of Moldova, in collaboration with UNFPA and the India-UN Development Partnership Fund, will establish a population register in the run up to the upcoming Population and Housing Census in the 2020 Global Round. The project “Improve availability of administrative data for tracking progress of the ICPD agenda in the framework of SDGs” has been approved in-principle for funding by the Government of India.
This project is reflective of the triangular partnership between the Government of Moldova, the Government of India and UNFPA and, in the long-term is expected to support National Bureau of Statistics in moving from traditional to register-based census.
The India-UN Fund will contribute US$550,000 to the project. Additional funding will come from UNFPA and the Government of Moldova bringing the project total to US$686,000.
The project will include an official statistics study visit for relevant government officials to Denmark to learn on building of registers on administrative data; development of the first ever official population projections; collection and analysis of the Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Gender based Violence indicators from the health information system and, Youth Score Card for tracking SDGs implementation at local level from youth perspective.
The successful implementation of this project is expected to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal SDF 17: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
