The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of Argentina, General Directorate for International Cooperation and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of Germany are organizing V Regional Conference (virtual) on “Perspectives on Triangular Cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean” to be held from 7- 8 October 2020.

The event aims to give continuity to the dialogue established between Germany and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean through the previous regional conferences in Bogotá (2012), Mexico City (2013), Santiago de Chile (2015) and Lima (2017), recognizing the potential of triangular cooperation in the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Today more than ever, the challenges of development and globalization call on international cooperation to provide comprehensive and coordinated responses. The coronavirus pandemic confronts us with the challenge of seeking innovative solutions, strengthening multilateralism and adopting flexible and agile international cooperation schemes. Triangular cooperation can play a fundamental role in reinforcing networks of solidarity and trust among countries.

Agenda 2030 invites to promote alliances to achieve the SDG. Likewise, the final declaration of the Second High-level United Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation (BAPA+40) reaffirms the potential of triangular cooperation to address global challenges through exchange and mutual learning, with greater emphasis on horizontal cooperation among peers and technology transfer.

For the Governments of Argentina and Germany, hosts of this V Regional Conference, the dialogue and exchange of experiences and ideas for the future of triangular cooperation takes on renewed importance in the current situation and constitutes an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of both nations to this modality of cooperation.

Based on concrete experiences and good practices, the dialogue at the V Regional Conference “Perspectives on Triangular Cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean” will focus on the following questions:

  • Which are the good practices and lessons learned in triangular cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean and with other regions?
  • How does the current context of the pandemic affect partner countries? How can it be responded to through triangular cooperation?
  • Which are the challenges and opportunities for triangular cooperation also in relation to digital transformation, digitalization and technology transfer?
  • Which are the prospects for triangular cooperation? What actors and roles should be considered?

The conference will be held in a virtual format and will provide simultaneous translation from English to Spanish and vice versa. The conference will be recorded.
