To mark this year’s International Women’s Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) is organizing the webinar “Create an Equal Future in a COVID-19 World”. Part of WHO’s #LearningSavesLives webinar series, the event will take place on 8 March 2021, from 8AM to 9:30AM (New York time).
Background
Women make up 70% of the global health and social care workforce, and are often underpaid or unpaid. They constitute less than 25% of leadership in health. A large percentage of women face discrimination or bias, and yet they face the greatest risk during health emergencies. On International Women’s Day, 8 March 2021, WHO aims to dive deeper into the inequities faced by women who work in the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the barriers they face to access lifesaving knowledge and receive the real-time training they need and want.
Access to knowledge, education and training for health workers and emergency personnel is a direct contributor to access to equity in health. With that in mind, the panel of women and men, practitioners, experts and leaders will explore how we can #ChoseToChallenge these barriers, so that women can shape a more equal future in a COVID-19 world.
