In January 2018, Rafael Martínez Gil was appointed Partnerships Development Specialist at the United Nations Volunteers Headquarters in Bonn, Germany. Rafael works with UNV partners to support the efforts of Member States to deliver on the 2030 Agenda through volunteerism and is responsible for South-South Cooperation and new partnerships with the private sector. Previously, from 2013 to 2018, Rafael acted as Portfolio Manager for East Asia and Pacific supervising 10 UNV country offices and overseeing UNV activities in 27 Asia-Pacific countries, ensuring integrated client services, quality programming, volunteer management and advisory services for volunteerism. In addition, during this period, Rafael was UNV’s focal point on Disaster Risk Reduction and on UNV’s support to the localization of the SDGs at country level. From 2010 to 2013, Rafael acted as Programme and Partnerships Analyst for Latin America and The Caribbean. From 2007 to 2010, Rafael served as the UNV Programme Officer in the Dominican Republic. Prior to joining UNV, Rafael began his career in international development cooperation with the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) in the Dominican Republic and the Dominican NGO “Women in Development”. Rafael holds a Master degree in International Decentralized Cooperation and a BA in Law.
