Professor Kumar works on a wide range of issues associated with disaster risk reduction by considering vulnerability of societies living in hazard prone areas. Her legal background helps to work with institutions on ensuring accountability and transparency in delivery of social services. Exposed since many years to higher education, she understands the importance of capacity building in organizations to train professionals to work on different global agendas. Thematically, she focuses on the relationship between climate change, development goals and conflicts. She is skilled in International Humanitarian Law, Curriculum Development, Public Speaking, Research, and Teaching. She has published work on disaster policies in India, Transboundary Disasters and International Humanitarian Law and was also actively involved in TISS’ intervention in Alapuzzha District during the recovery phase in Kerala after the floods in 2018. She holds a Master of Laws – LLM focused in International and Comparative Law from WBNUJS, Kolkata and NLU, Jodhpur.
