The ILO-China Partnership Programme and the Skill Development Institute of the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare of Lao PDR recently co-organized the first Annual Meeting for the South-South Cooperation Skill Development Network. The meeting was presided over by H.E. Phongxaysak Inthalath, Vice Minister of Labor and Social Welfare, H.E. Hing SIDETH, Delegate of Royal Government in Charge as Director General of DGTVET, Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training of Cambodia, Dr. Bounma SITTHISOM, Director General of Skills Development Institute of Lao PDR, Mr. Ouyang Ning, Deputy Director-General of Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Human Resource and Social Security of China. A total of 90 delegates from member technical and vocational education and training (TVET) centres of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and China, policy makers participated in the meeting through a blended modality of in person and online.
All 21 TVET members updated their institutional capacity development progress and also proposed joint initiatives of the Network for 2023 workplan such as TOT programs, curriculum development, and exchange visits.
Mr. Yutong Liu, ILO-China Programme Manager, expressed his appreciations for the support from all stakeholders in the last 12 months. A total of 18 member TVET institutes signed MOUs which aimed for long term peer-to-peer collaboration, for knowledge-sharing on curriculum and training materials development. Member TVETs conducted more than 20 bilateral workshops on a wide range of topics, such as extending TVET enrollment, curriculum development, digitalization of skills training, enterprise and TVET cooperation etc. A total of 14 Training of Trainers programmes were conducted from one week course to 10 weeks course. In total, there are 500 trainers who benefited from these capacity building programmes, such as website design, machining, mechatronics, carpentry and furniture, hospitality, brick laying and plastering, air-conditioning, cooking and cuisine, clothing and sewing, cloud computing, mobile robot, elevator installation and maintenance, e-commerce, electricity cars, etc.
