Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) PhD Fellowships are offered to women scientists from science- and technology-lagging countries (STLCs) to undertake PhD research in the natural, engineering and information technology sciences at a host institute in another developing country in the Global South. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, OWSD has now extended the deadline to 31 May 2020 (original deadline 31 March 2020).

The general purpose of the fellowship programme is to contribute to the emergence of a new generation of women leaders in science and technology, and to promote their effective participation in the scientific and technological development of their countries.

The programme is administered with funds generously provided by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and is offered in partnership with host institutes throughout the developing world.

OWSD is an international organization founded in 1987 and based at the offices of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), in Trieste, Italy. It is a programme unit of UNESCO. For details about eligibility criteria and fellowship support information, please visit the OWSD website.
