Paris Peace Forum Session on South-South and Triangular Cooperation

12 November 2021- South-South Cooperation (SSC) and Triangular Cooperation (TrC) is considered effective international cooperation modalities to support the development of the Global South. The importance of SSC and TrC has been recognized through several international declarations and resolutions, such as the recent BAPA+40 Outcome Document. In this regard, a session was held durinG Paris Peace Forum. The session explored ways to enhance the global architecture of both SSC and TrC and emphasize the complementarity with North-South Cooperation in the post-Covid-19 era. It also recognized the availability of proven development solutions in the Global South that can be replicated to tackle development challenges and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The speakers for the session included PM of Bangladesh (Sheikh Hasina), IsDB President (Dr. Al Jasser), former President of Niger (Issoufou Mahamadou), Chair of Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS, Indian think tank), UNDP Administrator (Achim Steiner- pre-recorded video).

Mr. Achim Steiner, UNDP Administrator, through a pre-recorded video, spoke at the Paris Peace Forum session on South-South and Triangular Cooperation. During the session, the role of UNDP in supporting SSC and TrC was hailed several times, including by the PM of Bangladesh for scaling-up public service innovation.
