Dr Henriette Jansen’s career in international public health and epidemiology spans 35+ years, working with the UN, governments and NGOs in Africa, Asia, Balkan, Caribbean, Middle East, Pacific and South America, with the last 20 years focusing on VAW research and data. She has led or supported more than 35 national studies on Violence against women worldwide and trained thousands of interviewers and researchers.

Currently she is Technical Advisor Violence against Women Research and Data in the United Nations Population Fund - Asia and the Pacific Regional Office (UNFPA/APRO) in Bangkok. She initiated and is the technical lead of the innovative kNOwVAWdata initiative, a partnership that includes UNFPA/APRO, Australian DFAT, the University of Melbourne and ANROWS. The initiative aims to support national VAW prevalence studies, to strengthen skills and data literacy on VAW. In 2018, kNOwVAWdata piloted its first regional four-week curriculum on measuring VAW in Asia and the Pacific Region which is being rolled out to other regions in the coming years.

She qualified in medicine and biology (double candidate degree, cum laude; doctoral degree, cum laude, Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam), science didactics (postgraduate diploma, Amsterdam), epidemiology (MSc, Rotterdam), and medical demography (MSc with distinction and award from LSHTM, UK).
