The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) working with UN Women, Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) and the International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN), is launching this online discussion to try and find out more about what is actually happening on the ground in areas of conflict and post-conflict where women are engaged in different ways in rebuilding their communities that is not always recognized.
This consultation provides a unique opportunity for women and organizations involved in local peacebuilding activities to:
- Contribute to the discussion and help inform UN policies in your region
- Advise and make recommendations for key issues to be raised at the 20th anniversary of UNSCR 1325
- Share “best practices” in your work that can help other peacebuilders and help the UN to support your work.
- On the discussion platform, click “share” or forward this email to fellow activists to participate as well to encourage full participation.
- Key contributors will be invited to attend the anniversary events in October.
Gender, Peace and Security Experts will be facilitating this online consultation focused on three major themes:
- Discussion Room 1: Role of women in post-conflict economic decision making
- Discussion Room 2: Role of women in political planning and local peace-building
- Discussion Room 3: How can we ensure women are engaged in decision-making in the response to COVID-1
The target audience of this consultation is men and women peacebuilders and activists throughout the globe including academic institutions. Some of the activists are in non internet accessible areas and some identities may need to be protected. The contributions to this consultation will be synthesized and serve as a key input to the proceedings of the 20th anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 focused on Women, Peace and Security.
