The Global Alliance for Tax Justice and the South Centre are jointly organising a Conference on South-South Cooperation in International Tax Matters to be held in a hybrid mode in Geneva, Switzerland from 27 to 28 November 2023.

The Conference will bring together developing countries from the G-77+China and the South Centre’s Member States, as well as Southern civil society, to discuss the implications and potential responses of the Global South to two historic developments:

  • the Amount A Multilateral Convention of the OECD for the taxation of the digital economy, and
  • the negotiations in the UN General Assembly on promoting international tax cooperation at the United Nations.

The Conference will also feature the launch of a joint study by the South Centre, African Tax Administration Forum and the West African Tax Administration Forum on country-level revenue estimates from Amount A and Digital Services Taxes for the Member States of the South Centre and the African Union. This endeavour will go a long way in assisting developing countries who are Members of the OECD Inclusive Framework to decide whether or not to sign the Amount A Multilateral Convention.

The Conference will be graced by the presence of Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives to the UN in Geneva.

Speakers at the Conference include experts from the Governments of Colombia, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Tanzania, the Global Alliance for Tax Justice, the African Tax Administration Forum, the West African Tax Administration Forum, EU Tax Observatory, UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, UN Economic Commission for Africa, African Union Commission, G-24, Platform for Taxation in Latin America and the Caribbean, Members of the OECD Inclusive Framework & UN Tax Committee, and the South Centre.
