TİKA Provides Support to Palestinian Red Crescent’s Maternity Hospital in Jerusalem

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided emergency equipment support to the Maternity and Obstetrics Hospital operating under the Palestinian Red Crescent (PRCS).

 

21 May 2021 – TİKA procured and delivered the emergency first aid materials needed by the Palestinian Red Crescent’s Maternity and Obstetrics Hospital, which ran out of stock while playing an important role in the emergency treatment and transport of the Palestinians who have been injured as a result of the excessive force used by the Israeli police in the Sheikh Jarrah, Old Town Damascus Gate, and Al-Aqsa Mosque areas of Jerusalem during Ramadan.

The medicines and consumables provided by TİKA consist of 3,500 pieces needed by the emergency response teams. The materials include medical equipment such as wheelchairs, gurneys, portable monitors, oxygen tanks, syringes, sterile gloves and canulas.

Treating the injured people amidst the violence in Jerusalem with 133 emergency response teams, 100 of which volunteers; the Hospital responded to 976 injured people in the last four days of Ramadan.

The Palestinian Red Crescent’s Maternity and Obstetrics Hospital is considered as one of the first humanitarian aid institutions for the Palestinians. Founded in 1951, the Red Crescent office in Jerusalem is one of the symbols of the city. The Jerusalem Office founds hospitals and emergency centers while providing social and humanitarian care services to needy people, poor people, and the families of martyrs and prisoners.

Founded within the walls of the holy city in 1953, the Maternity and Obstetrics Hospital is one of the most important projects of the Palestinian Red Crescent in Jerusalem. Due to the increasing need for their services, the hospital has been moved outside the walls and is now located in the Mount of Olives.

The hospital has been providing services for the healthcare of 350,000 Palestinians living in the city while transporting the patients receiving treatment in the West Bank and Gaza to the hospitals to Jerusalem.

The PCRS Maternity and Obstetrics Hospital in Jerusalem, which has 40 beds, is recognized as one of the pioneering healthcare institutions in Jerusalem. A neonatal intensive care unit for newborns is also included in the hospital, where 300 childbirths and 80 surgical operations take place each month.

Herod’s Gate Clinic

The hospital’s Herod’s Gate Clinic is considered the largest children’s vaccination center. Various tests are also carried out at the clinic, where pregnant women receive prenatal and postnatal care as well as relevant services.

Aqabat al-Khaldieh Clinic

The clinic, where pregnant women are being monitored, includes a children vaccination and obstetrics department, as well as an advanced dental clinic and a separate emergency department.
